Responsibilities
The Software Engineer IV is responsible for providing scientific programming for the Archive Implementation and Maintenance team. They are experienced in documenting the interface and control of new environmental data projects and ensuring the integrity and usability of the data over the entire lifecycle. They have experience with archival, implementation, and maintenance support for all aspects of the archive process.
The Software Engineer IV is skilled at converting scientific, engineering, and other technical problem formulations into computer-readable formats. They are capable of resolving symbolic formulations, preparing flowcharts and block diagrams, and encoding resultant equations for processing. They have a comprehensive understanding of branch of science, engineering, or advanced mathematics, such as differential equations or numerical analysis, and the capabilities and limitations of computers.
Within their particular field, the Software Engineer IV is familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures. They rely on their experience and judgment to plan and accomplish their goals, and they perform a variety of tasks under general supervision. They may also lead and direct others, requiring a certain degree of creativity and latitude in their work.
Required Qualifications
The Software Engineer IV should have 4+ or more years of practical experience in the lifecycle management of earth in-situ and remote sensing environmental data records and products. They should have a degree in any of the earth sciences (i.e., Meteorology, Oceanography, Geophysics), Library Science, or Data Science. They should also possess a Public Trust clearance.
