Responsibilities & Qualifications

Configure and support virtual environments including AWS and VMware

In this role, the System Administrator will be responsible for configuring and maintaining virtual environments, specifically with AWS and VMware. This includes setting up and managing virtual servers, networks, and storage systems. The System Administrator will need to have a strong understanding of virtualization technologies and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve any issues that arise.

Maintain various operating systems in a variety of users and activities

The System Administrator will also be responsible for maintaining various operating systems used by different users and activities within the organization. This includes ensuring that the operating systems are up to date with the latest patches and security updates, as well as troubleshooting and resolving any issues that may arise.

Apply cybersecurity knowledge to configure IT equipment to proper security standards

A crucial aspect of this role is applying cybersecurity knowledge to configure IT equipment to meet proper security standards. The System Administrator will need to have a deep understanding of cybersecurity best practices and standards, and be able to implement them within the organization’s IT infrastructure. This includes configuring firewalls, setting up secure access controls, and implementing encryption protocols.

Install, troubleshoot, and manage applications, systems, and networks

The System Administrator will be responsible for installing, troubleshooting, and managing various applications, systems, and networks within the organization. This includes installing software and hardware, resolving any issues that may arise, and managing the overall performance and availability of the applications, systems, and networks.

Test systems and resolve security vulnerabilities

As part of their responsibilities, the System Administrator will need to regularly test and evaluate the organization’s systems and networks to identify any security vulnerabilities. They will then need to develop and implement appropriate solutions to resolve these vulnerabilities and ensure the overall security of the organization’s IT infrastructure.

Minimum five (5) years of experience as a System Integrator, Administrator, or Cybersecurity Role

To qualify for this role, the System Administrator must have a minimum of five years of experience working as a System Integrator, Administrator, or in a Cybersecurity role. This experience should include hands-on experience configuring and managing virtual environments, maintaining operating systems, and applying cybersecurity best practices.

Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in IT, Cybersecurity, or related discipline

In addition to the required experience, the System Administrator must also have a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in IT, Cybersecurity, or a related discipline. This degree should provide the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively perform the duties of a System Administrator.

Active CCNA Security, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, Security+ CE, CND, SSCP, or higher (minimum DOD 8570 IAT Level 2 Certification)

The System Administrator must possess one or more active certifications, such as CCNA Security, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, Security+ CE, CND, SSCP, or a higher-level certification that meets the minimum DOD 8570 IAT Level 2 Certification requirement. These certifications demonstrate a proficiency in cybersecurity and IT infrastructure management.

Active TS/SCI + CI Polygraph

To be eligible for this position, the System Administrator must have an active TS/SCI security clearance with a CI polygraph. This clearance is necessary to access and work with classified information and systems.

Exposure to AWS (Amazon Web Services), and/or STIGs/IAVA

Experience or exposure to Amazon Web Services (AWS) and/or familiarity with STIGs/IAVA (Security Technical Implementation Guides/Information Assurance Vulnerability Alerts) is highly desirable for this role. This experience will allow the System Administrator to effectively configure and manage virtual environments using AWS and ensure compliance with security standards.

A problem solver who can get in, be given a project, and use engineering skills to determine a solution

The ideal candidate for this role is a problem solver who can independently take on projects and use their engineering skills to determine effective and efficient solutions. The System Administrator should have a strong analytical mindset and be able to think critically to identify and address any technical challenges that may arise.

Has, or is willing to gain, more diverse IT skills, including Windows/Linux, networking, and more

The System Administrator should have a strong foundation in IT skills, including experience with both Windows and Linux operating systems. Additionally, knowledge and experience with networking technologies, such as routers, switches, and firewalls, is highly desirable. The candidate should also be willing to continuously expand their IT skill set and stay up to date with the latest technologies and industry trends.

Able to build systems from the ground up – network architecture/systems engineering

An important aspect of this role is the ability to build systems from the ground up, including network architecture and systems engineering. The System Administrator should have a strong understanding of network design principles and be able to develop and implement scalable and secure network solutions.

Any applicable certifications like AWS Cloud Practitioner, and/or Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) 2012/2016

Any additional certifications, such as AWS Cloud Practitioner or Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) 2012/2016, would be beneficial for this role. These certifications demonstrate a proficiency in specific technologies and can enhance the candidate’s qualifications as a System Administrator.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

The System Administrator will primarily work in an office environment, with a medium level of noise. The role will typically involve working during regular business hours from Monday to Friday, although occasional evening and weekend work may be required to meet program and contract needs. The position may also involve some travel, although it is expected to be less than 10% of the time. The physical demands of the role include using hands to handle, feel, and touch objects, as well as reaching with hands and arms. The System Administrator may also need to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as needed. Physical strength may be required to lift up to 10 pounds on a regular basis, and up to 25 or 50 pounds on occasion. The role also requires good vision and the ability to adjust focus.
