Job Description

The full-time instructor position in Industrial Design at Virginia Tech’s School of Design is open for applications. This position is focused on teaching responsibilities in the field of Industrial Design. As an instructor, the individual will be responsible for teaching core Industrial Design courses, as well as elective courses. The courses cover a range of topics including history of design, visual communication, and UX/UI. The instructor will also have advising responsibilities, curricula development duties, and other instructional duties as required.

Qualifications

The required qualifications for this position include a terminal or professional degree in Design or a related area, such as an MA, MS, MFA, or MDes, to be completed by the appointment start date. The ideal candidate will have proven ability to teach Industrial Design courses and/or significant professional experience in the field. Additionally, the candidate should have demonstrated success in working with and promoting diversity and inclusion within an academic and/or professional environment.

Preferred qualifications for the position include a broad understanding of contemporary and traditional art and design practice and theory related to Industrial Design. The candidate should also have a record of excellence in one or more areas, such as history of design, visual communication, user experience, and studio-based courses.

A one-page personal statement of teaching philosophy, including ideas for supporting an equitable and inclusive educational environment, is also required. Job Responsibilities
