We are hiring immediately a Sr. Project Manager, Major Projects anywhere in the US near a major airport – a role critical to customers’ electricity, heating, and cooling needs.

The individual will plan, direct, coordinate, and budget activities concerned with the installation, operations, and demobilization of temporary utility projects.

The Sr. Project Manager manages large, complex temporary utility projects and leads project teams. Other responsibilities are to mentor mid-level and junior project managers and provide guidance on project management processes, tools, and methodologies.

What you’ll do:

  • Work with Major Projects Program Manager and Major Projects Leader to provide leadership and mentoring across Major Projects team
  • Manage a wide range of complex projects within established processes and tools, following formal project management principles.
  • Work with internal engineering and other teams to facilitate estimates, drawings and other related material for customer quotes
  • Manage 3-5 major projects at a time through entire project life cycle. 30-40 % of projects will require onsite leadership.
  • Plan, organize, and direct activities regarding installation, commissioning, maintenance, and demobilization including pre-job planning, parts lists, project drawings
  • Primary interface with client, contractors, client’s engineer, internal Engineering department, vendors and internal technical service representatives
  • Track project against its schedule, budget and against phase review objectives, reporting status to management and customer on a regular basis, and executive staff as needed
  • Mentor mid-level and junior project managers. Expand team performance and deliverables reinforcing processes, tools, and templates.  Promote best practices and PM methodologies
  • Conduct field assessments of team’s skills and behaviors, providing opportunities for learning and process improvements
  • Assist PMO in hiring and onboarding. Screen and interview PM team candidates. Engage in onboarding process and subsequent field observations
  • Participate in PMO Portfolio internal/external post-project reviews
  • Be a safety champion: Lead by example and hold others responsible for working safely and providing a safe working environment
  • Travel 40-60 % of time to any area in North America in varying industries and environments

We’re experts, which means you’ll have the following skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred in engineering, construction management
  • 10+ years of significant project experience managing field related projects in one or more sectors: Utility, Petrochem/Refining, Building Construction and Services
  • Must have and maintain project management certification from PMI, APM or recognized equivalent, or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire date.
  • Knowledge in HVAC/R, electrical power generation/transmission/distribution is a plus
  • Experience in managing EPC, EPCM or similar Integrated project teams
  • Strong focus on HSE and safety leadership. Be a safety champion and lead by example and hold others responsible for working safely and providing a safe working environment
  • Strong negotiation skills for effective management and resolution of conflicts with internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrate decisiveness in resolving business problems, making decisions, and identifying priorities
  • Strong organizational and communication skills for effective leadership of multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams and alignment of project objectives between various stakeholder groups
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations
  • Ability to read and interpret one-line diagrams, P&IDs and process design packages
  • Availability and willingness to work outside normal business hours, environments, climates, regions, etc.
  • Intermediate computer software proficiency including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Teams, and SharePoint
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently
  • Ability to proficiently communicate verbal and written up and down organization
  • Ability to demonstrate vision and motivate high performing teams
  • Must be well organized and have ability to meet deadlines and perform under pressure in a fast-paced work environment
  • Ability to move or lift objects, typically less than 50 lbs
