INNOVIM is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to support NASA’s Earth Observing System Data and Information System (EOSDIS) Evolution and Development 3 (EED-3) contract.  INNOVIM’s EED-3 team provides Earth scientists and others access to data from NASA’s Earth Science missions.

The candidate will work in a fast-paced Agile development environment performing operations, design, and development for the NASA Common Metadata Repository (CMR) and Earthdata Search Client (EDSC). As a member of the EED-3 team, the software engineer will build and support innovative tools allowing scientists and students alike to discover, transform, update, and improve the quality of earth science data in the pursuit of solving a wide range of environmental and socio-economic issues. This includes leading the deployment of product updates, to identify production issues and construct scalable architecture.

**This position requires a U.S. Person and quarterly travel**

Required Experience, Knowledge, and/or Skills:



  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical major, such as engineering or computer science, and at least 10 years of software engineering experience.

  • In-depth knowledge of cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Azure, or Google Cloud, including networking and serverless services such as Lambda and Step Functions.

  • Strong programming / scripting skills in languages such as Python and JavaScript, particularly within an Agile development environment.

  • Understanding of front-end technologies and frameworks (e.g., React, Angular)

  • Strong problem-solving skills, the ability to take initiative and proactively debug complex issues

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams


Desired Experience, Knowledge, and/or Skills:



  • Knowledge of geospatial data formats and standards (e.g., GeoJSON, KML, Shapefile)

  • Familiarity with GIS software and tools (e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS)

  • Ability to work with containerization and orchestration tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)

  • Experience using the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) methodology

  • Experience with full life cycle Software design and development experience on large/complex n-tier client/server applications.

  • AWS Solutions Architect or AWS Developer certifications
