About The Position

At the Insured Retirement Institute (IRI), we have a fantastic team committed to our mission of championing retirement security for all Americans. We are seeking a detailed-oriented Membership Data Analyst (MDA) to play a crucial role in IRI and the insured retirement industry. Working directly with the VP, Membership and Business Development, the MDA will be responsible for collecting, managing, analyzing, and reporting data on our members and the industry to help expand IRI’s membership pool. This role involves conducting research and analyzing membership behavior to understand our constituents’ actions and market reaction, both with respect to current members and in the industry, which is essential for growth and engagement.

Primary Responsibilities

 

Data Collection and Management

  • Maintain and update membership databases with accurate and relevant information.
  • Operate association management systems with extensive experience.
  • Gather membership and industry data from various sources such as surveys, reports, and industry databases.
  • Collaborate with external partners and vendors for data acquisition and analysis projects.


Data Analysis

  • Collect, evaluate, and interpret data from available membership, industry, and other relevant sources to support decision-making processes.
  • Maintain and update databases with accurate and relevant information.
  • Analyze membership, industry, and other relevant data to provide insights.
  • Use statistical tools and software to interpret data sets and identify patterns or trends.


Reporting and Presentations

  • Prepare detailed reports, summaries, and employ visualizations like charts and graphs to present findings.
  • Communicate insights and recommendations to stakeholders, association leaders, and employees.
  • Schedule, attend, or facilitate meetings as needed to support project activities.


Documentation

  • Create detailed documentation, including business requirements documents, use cases, functional specifications, and process flows, to guide development and implementation.


Solution Design

  • Collaborate with technical teams to design and review industry solutions that align with business goals and requirements.


Project Management

  • Assist in industry project planning with estimates and implementation timelines, tracking, and reporting to ensure adoption.
  • Proactively communicate project status, issues, and solutions to stakeholders.
  • Escalate issues as needed to Chief Membership and Marketing Officer.


Continuous Improvement

  • Continuously monitor and assess business processes and systems, recommending improvements and innovations to drive business growth and efficiency.
  • Identify and address potential risks and issues that may impact success, working with stakeholders to develop mitigation strategies.


Other Duties

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Some travel is required with limited advanced notice.


Supervisory Responsibilities


  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.


Education and Experience

  • Education: Bachelor's degree preferred but not required in Business, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Experience: Ten or more years of proven experience in a data analysis role or similar role with an operational and technical background in the financial service, trade association or member organization.
  • Industry Understanding: Possesses a solid understanding of insured retirement products/solutions and operations functions including key trends, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Project Management: Extensive background in project management to deliver key business outcomes is required.
  • Continuous Learning: Ability to stay updated with industry developments and integrate new data sources as needed.
  • Data Analysis Software Proficiency: Strong data analysis software skills (e.g., Excel, SQL, SAS, R, Python) with the ability to tell stories with charts and graphs.
  • Data Visualization: Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) to create dashboards, leverage the data warehouse, and develop member-facing visuals.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills and presentation skills including the ability to interpret and articulate mandates.
  • Presentation Skills: Ability to create compelling reports and presentations for non-technical audiences.
  • Accuracy and Detail: Detailed-oriented with high level of accuracy in data collection, analysis, and reporting. Ability to identify and correct data inconsistencies and errors.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills that contribute to strategic decision making
  • Interpersonal Skills: Excellent interpersonal relationship skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with various audiences to advance organizational positions.
  • Time Management and Multitasking Abilities: Excellent time management and multi-tasking skills and ability to work in a fast-paced atmosphere with changing priorities while maintaining high attention to detail.
  • Work Ethic: Must have a strong work ethic and be effective in ambiguous situations with resilience and determination.
  • Collaboration and Independence: Proven ability to work effectively both in teams and independently.
  • Technological Proficiency: Aptitude for learning new technology applications, databases, and software, with proficiency in or ability to quickly master Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, etc.).


Preferred Qualifications

  • NetForum Experience: Proficient with NetForum
  • Membership Knowledge: Understands the differences between the IRI membership constituencies and the unique IRI membership value proposition specific to each member type.
