Job Title and Responsibility
Day Shift Patient Financial Advisor – Surgical Scheduler
As a Day Shift Patient Financial Advisor – Surgical Scheduler, the primary responsibility is to coordinate and schedule surgical procedures for insured and uninsured patients. The role involves various aspects of patient financial advising, including pre-service, point of service, post-service, and pre-collection duties.
Job Description
Insured patients
For insured patients, the Day Shift Patient Financial Advisor – Surgical Scheduler must confirm the coverage requirements for scheduled patients and ensure that they are eligible for the planned services. Additionally, the advisor must obtain any necessary authorizations for services and monitor patient service counts to ensure that the services align with the insurance coverage for proper payments.
Uninsured patients
When dealing with uninsured patients, the advisor must identify the appropriate sources of payment based on Federal Poverty Level (FPL) guidelines. They will assess the patient’s ability to pay and work with them to develop payment plans or discount plans. If necessary, the advisor will refer these patients to other payment sources, such as Medicaid eligibility vendors.
Pre-service
During the pre-service stage, the Day Shift Patient Financial Advisor – Surgical Scheduler handles tasks such as scheduling, pre-registration, and other administrative duties before the date of service. Point of Service
At the point of service, the advisor works directly with patients to discuss payment options, including insurance coverage and out-of-pocket costs. They provide accurate cost estimates and educate patients on financial responsibilities related to their surgical procedure.
Post Service and Pre-claim
After the service has been provided, but before the insurance claim is submitted, the advisor handles additional tasks. They ensure that all necessary documentation and coding are completed correctly for proper claim submission. They also work with insurance companies or other relevant parties to resolve any issues or discrepancies before the claim is submitted.
Post Service and Post Claim
Once the insurance claim has been submitted and processed, the advisor continues to monitor the status and resolves any payment or reimbursement issues. They work to ensure that the healthcare provider receives the appropriate reimbursement for the services rendered.
Post Remittance
In the post-remittance stage, the advisor reviews and reconciles payments received from insurance companies. They ensure that the payments align with the expected reimbursement and follow up on any discrepancies or denials.
Pre-Collection
Before sending the patient account to collections, the Day Shift Patient Financial Advisor – Surgical Scheduler makes every effort to collect outstanding balances from patients. They communicate with patients to establish payment plans and resolve any outstanding financial obligations.
