Job Description
The Footwear Designer at BBC International will be responsible for various duties and responsibilities related to concept and design of children’s footwear. This includes creating special make-up styles (SMU’s) and working on special projects as needed. The designer will also organize confirmation samples and bins, and ensure all samples receive confirmation approvals. Daily and weekly communication with China offices regarding current season confirmation samples is required.
The Footwear Designer will be responsible for maintaining the current Design CAD Deck, including reviewing incoming sample notes and documenting any notes related to licensor comments. They will also collaborate with the Product Manager to keep extra samples and review and accept them upon arrival. PLM entry and development is a key task for the designer, as well as maintaining the organization and cleanliness of the samples rack, and removing any old samples.
In addition to the design responsibilities, the Footwear Designer will gather samples for sales when needed, and may need to travel to New York for licensor meetings. Trend and market research is also part of the role, as well as researching materials in the swatch library and through competitive products. The designer will create trend boards and color palettes for presentations, and will be responsible for following through on the development of the product during the development season.
Requirements
To be considered for the Footwear Designer role at BBC International, candidates must have 3-5 years of experience in footwear design. Proficiency in both digital and hand sketching techniques is required. Strong proficiency in In Design, Photoshop, and Illustrator is essential, as is basic knowledge of Microsoft Office. The successful candidate should have excellent taste level and brand awareness, and a high level of creativity. A strong sense of color, fashion, product, and trend knowledge is also required. Complete trend and market research is expected, and the candidate should possess exceptional organizational, time management, written and verbal communication, and presentation skills.
