Job Summary

The Department of Art at SUNY Brockport, State University of New York, is currently seeking an Assistant Professor of Graphic Design for a tenure-track position. This full-time, 10-month role will begin in August 2024. The department is specifically looking for candidates with expertise in various graphic design subspecialties, including UI design, web design, motion design/interactive media design, time-based media, and 3D modeling and animation. The ideal candidate will have a passion for teaching and be able to contribute to the department’s blend of studio art and design. The Department of Art consists of eight faculty members with diverse backgrounds and expertise. The department values a culture of collaboration and involvement at all levels and offers degree programs in Graphic Design and Studio Art, among others.

Minimum Qualifications

To be considered for the Assistant Professor of Graphic Design position, candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications:

  • Terminal degree in Graphic Design or a related field, such as Interaction Design or Visual Communications Design, from a recognized college or university.
  • Previous teaching experience, which may include adjunct or teaching assistant roles at the college level or other relevant teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in graphic communication skills.
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following areas: UI design, web design, motion design/interactive media design, time-based media, and 3D modeling and animation.
  • In-depth knowledge of typography and design theory, with a strong understanding of current design processes and software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively connect with and motivate a culturally diverse student body.

Preferred Qualifications

While the minimum qualifications are essential, candidates with the following preferred qualifications will be given additional consideration:

  • Professional industry experience in graphic design, at various levels.
  • Practical knowledge of advertising design, environmental/experiential design, and/or packaging design.
  • Two to three years of teaching experience at the college level.
  • Experience working in a Mac-based lab environment.
  • Fluency in and appreciation of studio art and art history.

Salary and Benefits

The minimum salary for the Assistant Professor of Graphic Design position is $63,000. This is a benefits-eligible position, and the university also offers Visa sponsorship for qualified candidates.
