Job Description

Massachusetts College of Art and Design (MassArt) is seeking a Communication Design Tenure-Track Faculty member to join their campus located in Boston, MA. The college is dedicated to increasing diversity within its curriculum and fostering an inclusive environment. The department is highly collaborative and forward-thinking, with a culture of mutual support. The position is governed by the MSCA collective bargain agreement, and the salary range for this role is $66,000 – $72,000.

Minimum Qualifications

Eligible candidates for the Communication Design Tenure-Track Faculty position should possess at least one of the following qualifications:

A) A degree in Communication Design, Graphic Design, or a related field. A terminal degree is required for promotion and tenure. B) Demonstrated professional working experience in the field of communication design or a related area. C) At least 1 year of teaching experience in the area of communication design or a related field at the college or university level, which may include course assistantships, teaching assistantships, or youth programs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Preferred qualifications for the Communication Design Tenure-Track Faculty position include:

  • Demonstrated record of promoting a respectful work and learning environment for students, faculty, staff, and the wider community.
  • Ability or potential to teach at the college level and an aptitude for innovative curriculum development and delivery.
  • Previous experience teaching in interdisciplinary programs and supervising graduate students will be considered assets.
  • Proactive advancement of decolonization, diversity, equity, and sustainability in curriculum, teaching, scholarship, and creative/professional activities.
  • Willingness to challenge preconceptions about design.
  • Contribution to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research/creative activities, teaching, and service.
  • Strong belief in the mission of a public university or college.
  • Interest in collaboration.
  • Ability to speak or write in more than one language.
  • Willingness to teach courses at all levels of communication design.
  • Proficiency in current technologies used in the professional practice of communication design.
  • Experience with emerging design and communication technologies.
