Responsibilities

The Office of Space Weather Observations (SWO) under NESDIS is responsible for advancing space weather observational capabilities to meet NOAA programmatic needs. NOAA’s Space Weather Next (SWX) program maintains and extends space weather observations from various vantage points, selected to most efficiently provide comprehensive knowledge of the Sun and the near-Earth space environment needed to protect our technological infrastructure.

 

The Space Weather Ground Services (SWGS) is responsible for comprehensive ground services for all SWX projects, ensuring successful implementation and operation of observing assets and ensuring the continuity of space weather measurements made by SWFO-L1 and the GOES-R series satellites.

 

The SWGS Mission Operations Services (MOS) program must provide a full mission satellite command and control solution to support the L1 Series with two new independently launched observatories.

 

Peraton is seeking to hire a Systems Architect to join this new SWGS-MOS program.

 

**This position is contingent on contract award.**

 

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Serve as the team’s Modernization System Architect
  • Consult with management, customers, and external contractors regarding resources, plans, designs, and implementations
  • Oversee solution architecting, cloud strategy, and cloud best practices
  • Evaluate and define future cloud architecture, cloud services, and cloud applications
  • Oversee technical design, development, and implementation of system services
  • Assist with Program Increment Planning
  • Interface with Cloud providers
  • Identify technical risks, risk reduction mitigations, and opportunity identification
  • Define, prioritize, assign, and monitor team tasks, individual workloads and assignments
  • Provide oversight in standards, best practices, and technical specifications
  • Interact with customers regarding strategies, requirements, problem solving, and support
  • Communicate project status to various levels of management
  • Interface with management for reach-back support
  • Work with minimal supervision/guidance
  • Occasional CONUS travel

Qualifications

  • Active Public Trust clearance
  • 8+ years with BS/BA; Minimum of 6 years with MS/MA; Minimum of 3 years with PhD
  • 5 years' of experience supporting NOAA/NASA architectures and system integrations
  • Knowledge of cloud-based products, applications, and services
  • Expertise in solution design and development, vendor interaction, and enterprise application support
  • Proven experience in managing relationships with vendors/consultants, team members, and customers
  • Established project management skills
  • Familiar with agile scrum frameworks

Target Salary Range

$135,000 - $216,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
