The Bay School of San Francisco is currently seeking a qualified Engineering and Design Teacher for a temporary, part-time position starting in January 2024 and ending in May 2024. The teacher will report to the Arts Department Chair and Dean of Faculty and will be responsible for teaching three courses: two sections of an introductory design course and one section of an Advanced Product Design course. The primary focus of the courses will be on mechanical engineering and design. The courses are known to attract students with interests in robotics and industrial design.

The Engineering and Design Teacher will have several responsibilities, including providing safety training, overseeing students during class activities, maintaining machinery, and managing inventory and restocking of supplies. The classes will meet three times a week on a rotating block schedule. The ideal candidate will have a commitment to innovative curricular design, collaboration, progressive pedagogy, and social justice.

To qualify for this position, applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree, with a Master’s degree preferred. They should also have 2-3 years of teaching experience in engineering or shop courses at the middle or high school level. Proficiency in Google Suite and familiarity with both PC and Mac platforms and Learning Management Systems (LMS) and Student Management Systems (SMS) is required. Additionally, the candidate should possess safety certifications or have a demonstrated safety record in working with students and machinery. Other requirements include LiveScan fingerprinting and TB risk assessment, first aid/CPR training, mandated reporter training, anti-harassment training, and bloodborne pathogen training.

The primary responsibilities of the Engineering and Design Teacher will include teaching three courses, designing curriculum and assessments, grading student work, and providing feedback. They will also be expected to communicate with students, parents, and advisors, hold one-on-one student meetings, and attend staffulty or department meetings.

Lunch service is provided by Acre Gourmet and is available to all employees. The salary for this part-time position will be based on years of secondary school work or relevant experience, with a range of $28,228 to $46,673. The position also qualifies for benefits.
