Job Description

Department: Office of Institutional Advancement, Alumni Engagement

The Alumni Engagement Coordinator role is a critical position within the Office of Institutional Advancement’s Alumni Engagement Department at UMBC. This department is responsible for strengthening connections between the university and its graduates, friends, and partners. The coordinator will play a key role in executing the logistics, communications, and associated tasks for events that promote alumni pride, connection, and support for UMBC.

Responsibilities

The Alumni Engagement Coordinator will work closely with the Associate Director of Alumni Engagement to plan and organize a variety of events. These events will include broad-based alumni gatherings as well as more targeted events for specific constituencies, regions, or affinities. One area of focus for the coordinator will be recent graduates, both graduate and undergraduate, and finding ways to maintain their connection to the university after they join the Alumni Association.

The coordinator will also leverage technology and innovation to expand the reach of the Office of Alumni Engagement and the UMBC Alumni Association. This includes utilizing online platforms and tools to engage with alumni worldwide and amplify the value of UMBC. The coordinator will also be responsible for fostering deeper relationships among the global UMBC community, motivating individuals and groups to actively participate in alumni events and initiatives.

The position requires the ability to work independently on multiple projects while proactively communicating progress to colleagues. The coordinator must be able to take initiative in an entrepreneurial environment and contribute creative ideas for program planning. This role may occasionally involve travel, evening work, and weekend work.

Required Minimum Qualifications

To be considered for the Alumni Engagement Coordinator position, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • At least two years of experience in alumni engagement and/or event management.
  • Ability to work independently on multiple projects while proactively communicating progress to colleagues.
  • Ability to take initiative and thrive in an entrepreneurial environment.
  • Strong creative program planning skills.
  • Note: This is a full-time position that may involve occasional travel, evening work, and weekend work.
